| Harriet Hume performed in a number of original bands before forming soundcinema with Sue Ward. Starting with The Heretics, whose album Mass Hysteria (Fringe Records) produced by Michael Phillip Wojewoda, was number 1 on the College Charts and heard on CFNY and CBC radio. The group was also nominated for a Casby Award in the Fave Unsigned Act category. Their music videos Big Surprise and Get Out Of My Life (which Harriet co-produced, directed and edited with Pat Jeffries) were shown on Much Music and CBC. Big Surprise can still be seen on BRAVO. The Heretics also appeared on City TV's The New Music and Breakfast Television. Regulars of Toronto's Queen Street scene they also toured across Canada and played in New York at the New Music Seminar, Canadian Showcase, sponsored by CFNY and Intrepid Records, broadcast live, on CFNY.   After The Heretics, Harriet played guitar with Aardvark Ontario and then The Domestics. She also appeared on the Squishy CD by the band Shirley. Since moving into electronic music Harriet has produced soundtracks for 2 animated shorts, Dance and Toiletman, which appeared at the international SIGGRAPH conferences 2000 & 2001. |

Sue Ward was involved in several bands and co-writing ventures both in Canada and the U.K. prior to soundcinema. As lead vocalist and lyricist for Shining Path, she co-wrote with guitarist Neil Exall (The Mercurymen). She also sang additional vocals with pop/rock band Jealous of Youth and appeared on their debut CD Days Gone By. This album, produced by Ivan Zilman, received regular airplay on Torontos CFNY and rave reviews in local magazines and newspapers. The band performed hundreds of gigs in and around Toronto, including a benefit concert for the Childrens Aid Society at the Music Hall, and appeared on Breakfast Television.   Later, she joined forces with Mike Morritti to form Aardvark Ontario, where she collaborated both in songwriting and vocal arrangements; releasing a cassette engineered by Terrance Lee Sawchuk. Following that, Sue wrote and sang in The Domestics. During this time, one of her songs, "13 Buddhist Monks", appeared on the Squishy CD by Shirley.   Sue has also co-written with British singer/songwriter Steve Taylor (Tall Americans) (Goddwarf), among others. |
soundcinema After meeting in the band Aardvark Ontario, they decided to team-up and develop their own sound. Harriet wrote and performed the music and Sue penned and sang the lyrics. soundcinema was born! Their self-produced debut CD Water (mixed by Jim Zolis) is a cinematic blend of abstract sounds and poetic melodies set to a modern beat. Trip Hop, Acid Jazz, electronic pop sounds abound! |
